Unity offers out of the box also offers a lot more possibilities in expressing presentation over what one may be able to accomplish with the traditional sprite sheets. The Asset system, animation systems, etc. Unity also has a visual programming suite for anyone who wants to try their hand at creating extensions and are not familiar with code, though how that plays with RMU is still up in the air. Unite has not promised 3D support at all, likely because it deviates too much from what Vanila RM does, but it's certainly not impossible to do for the determined. Vanilla RPG Maker's engine is built specifically for 2D games whereas Unity's built for 3D. One would have to consider the individual resolutions of each systems, the hardware limitations and input layouts, so no one project can deploy into several systems as-is. No few amount of plugins can make porting a one-click solution when publishing on consoles. The framework is still Unity, so publishing for consoles is 100% likely to be possible. Publishing on systems current RPG Maker software can't do out-of-the box.The obvious benefits of having it on Unity: BUT! If most of the editing process can be made to be as similar to RPG Maker as possible, easing into it will be a lot more frictionless.
